Himlung Himal (7126m)

Nepal
13/03/2022 - 05/04/2022     COMPLETED

About the trip

The chances are that you've never met anyone who has climbed to over 7000m...

This year we return to Nepal in support of the spinal unit in an attempt to summit a genuine giant.

Mt Himlung Himal sits in a remote corner of the Manaslu region on the border between Tibet and Nepal. This magical, unspoilt corner of the Himalayas was previously off limits to foreigners, with the Nepalese government only opening the area 1992. Because of this not many have ever seen this majestic peak never mind climb it. Local knowledge and the few previous expeditions have recognised however that for a mountain that stands at over 7000m it is safe and relatively untechnical making it one of the more accessible mountains of its size.

The five day approach to the mountain follows a valley that is often described as one of the most beautiful in the world. Picture cascading waterfalls, Monasteries perched on mountain sides and hanging glaciers, all before we even reach Base Camp.

We shall be immersing ourselves in the incredible Nepalese culture, staying in quaint mountain villages and rustic teahouses as we ascend towards base camp where the climbing period will begin. Supported by a team of experienced guides and sherpas our camps will be established and all supplies and amenities catered for on the mountain so we can focus on acclimatisation and taking it all in before our push for the summit. On our return we shall take an incredible helicopter joinery back through the Himalayas to Kathmandu where celebrations will ensue and the trip of a life time will start to sink in.

It's not all about the summit. We will be visiting the current spinal unit in Kathmandu and meeting the people who will be benefitting from the fundraising before heading for the mountains.

Believe me spending time on the roof of the world is enough to change anyone perspective but meeting people who's lives you might change forever will be even more inspiring.

I've recently returned from my M2M trek up Mera Peak in Nepal, now armed with a hatful of memories, the sense of a real challenge met - and a great group of people to now call friends. Thanks to Ed and the M2M team, who's planning, advice and encouragement allowed our group to have an unforgettable experience in the mountains, whilst raising funds for a fine cause. The trip was tough but extraordinary, outside the comfort zone but life-affirming. My climb even managed to impress the wife and kids back home, which doesn't happen very often... Would highly recommend future M2M trips.

I believe I speak for all the team when I say how inspiring the M2M mission is. I am so very glad to be in at the beginning, and excitedly wait for updates and developments of the next chapter. In the meantime thank you to Nepal and Nepalese people, culture and landscapes - I crave mountains once more!

The feeling of standing on the highest trekking peak in the Himalayas, looking over some of the worlds highest peaks, after a grueling 6 hour ascent was simply indescribable. To do so surrounded by people I felt I'd known my whole life, but had actually only known for two weeks made it even more special. I couldn't be prouder of the each and every member of the group and know that this motley crew will stay in touch for years to come. Climbing Mera Peak with the M2M Foundation was the experience of a lifetime and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Thank you for the trip of a lifetime and unforgettable memories!
